Magic Strategy Day
Ineffective reporting is a process problem (not a technology or talent problem).
In my 20+ years as a data guy and designer I have seen this same story play out, over and over again.
- Organization decides they want to "modernize" their reports.
- They decide to invest in new reporting software.
- They invest in training their team in the new software.
- The software is not giving them their desired result but they have spent too much money to change course.
- They invest in expensive "expert" consultants who produce better results, but still not what they were hoping to achieve in the first place.
- They then blame the software and carry a grudge forever.
But here's the thing, the problem isn't the software.
The real problem.
Most teams are still reporting like it's 1999. A time when PDFs were standard, web design was hard, and social media didn't exist.
Not only do they rely on 1999 style reports, they also rely on a 1999 style reporting process. But a 20th century reporting process just doesn't work well with 21st century tools.
The solution, you need to change your process BEFORE you change your tools or your talent.
How it works.
- We meet for a 30 minute prep session so that I can fully layout my approach.
- We meet for our first 90 minute session with three objectives.
- Assess your current reporting process and capacity.
- Segment your audiences.
- Discuss key reporting objectives and goals.
- We meet for our second 90 minute session with three more objectives.
- Develop a practical reporting strategy.
- Identify reporting products suitable for each of four key audience segments.
- Discuss implementation logistics, technology, and evaluation metrics.
- I also include a 30 minute follow-up call, to be held at least a few weeks (up to 6 months) after the last strategy session. This is so we can tweak the strategy based on your experience.
